Each week I set one full working on the table, free. This week: an elemental warding rite the old craft keeps for guarding the one who bears it.

The old craft traditionally sets this working during a waning moon, or on a Tuesday — Mars' day.
You will need
- A small white candle
- A black tourmaline stone
- A silver knife or athame
The working
- Cleanse your ritual space by smudging with sage and calling in the four directions.
- Light the white candle and place it at the center of your altar or workspace.
- Hold the black tourmaline in your receptive hand (the left, for most) and picture a warding light closing around you.
- With the silver knife, trace a banishing pentagram above the candle while intoning the words below.
- Let the candle burn down safely, then bury the remains outside your home.
(Mind the practical craft too: never leave a flame unattended, keep hands, hair and sleeves well clear, and mind the blade — a careful practitioner is the first protection.)
