Free Working: Guard Against Harm

This week's free working — an elemental warding rite with black tourmaline, complete and ungated, with a sigil cut by The Forge from the working's own intent.

A gift, complete — no email wall, ever

Each week I set one full working on the table, free. This week: an elemental warding rite the old craft keeps for guarding the one who bears it.

Best performed

The old craft traditionally sets this working during a waning moon, or on a Tuesday — Mars' day.

You will need

The working

  1. Cleanse your ritual space by smudging with sage and calling in the four directions.
  2. Light the white candle and place it at the center of your altar or workspace.
  3. Hold the black tourmaline in your receptive hand (the left, for most) and picture a warding light closing around you.
  4. With the silver knife, trace a banishing pentagram above the candle while intoning the words below.
  5. Let the candle burn down safely, then bury the remains outside your home.

(Mind the practical craft too: never leave a flame unattended, keep hands, hair and sleeves well clear, and mind the blade — a careful practitioner is the first protection.)

Speak

> By earth and fire, air and water, I call upon the elements to guard me from all harm.

Practitioners hold that a ward well-made steadies the one who bears it, and that the tending of it matters more than the making. Ground and center yourself afterward.

If you'd like a working cut to your own shape, the grimoire holds sixty-two, and the request page is where bespoke work begins.
